"Expando" on Billboard chart
« on: October 29, 2009, 09:55:09 AM »
I had hoped that "Expando" would make the Billboard 200 album chart in it's first week, but it did not.  However, it is #43 on the Heatseekers Album chart, which is basically a chart that tracks those albums that fall just out of the top 200, to give an idea which albums may break into the top 200 soon.  Realistically, sales will probably go down after the first week, which is the case for most albums since the first week sales include all the pre-orders.

I hope that enough people will recognize the quality of this album and the word will continue to spread.  These things can be viral on the internet, so we can all probably do a little something to get the word out.  This may be hindered by the fact that most of Timothy's fan base is likely older, less internet savvy and less inclined to participate in social networking sites (uh, ME!).  But it would be nice if those of us who love this album try to spread the word.  I'd like to see Timothy get some recognition for his great accomplishment.  And also, there's probably very little chance any of these songs will make an Eagles concert setlist unless they achieve some significant popularity.

it would be good if one made the setlist for the Eagles as this would be great advertising for him. for people like me, who only ever knew them as a group  knowing nothing about them as individuals except  for Henley, my friends know the Eagles but have no idea about individual achievments.

Given the type of music that makes up the Billboard charts these days, I'm not surprised at this... I've all but given up on mainstream radio and traditional sales outlets.  To be successful in today's markets one has to do it oneself... and for the vast majority of "older"and independent artists, this means relying on word of mouth, networking, longtime fans, and performance revenue.  Album sales just aren't there.

I've been repeatedly disappointed by the lackluster reaction to albums by such amazing artists as Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, Springsteen et al... even the latest U2 record has not been getting the kind of attention it deserves...and it's not that their recent output is any less wonderful, it's just that it's not relevant to an audience accustomed to the unchallenging fare on the airwaves these days.  Short attention spans.. uneducated ears... filesharing...it's a combination of many things.

I'm not disappointed anymore.   It's the way of the new order.  Good music will always be made, I just wish it could be more widely made KNOWN.

I remember Timothy said at one of his shows that "they" (record label?) were trying to get "Parachute" on the radio.  This station in Madison, Wisconsin is apparently playing it (it's on their playlist).  I hope other stations are as well.

it would be good if one made the setlist for the Eagles as this would be great advertising for him.

I'm not sure how they're gonna fit more solo material into the set list. Sunset Grill would be the last solo song theyadded to the set. The Eagles neglected to perform anything from the last two Eagles solo albums Feed The Fire or Inside Job even though they were playing a 3 hour set.

If Walsh or Henley come up with a huge song that the band can't ignore before the Eagles reconvene, maybe they'll let Tim do a solo track too.

Expando is the first Schmit album IMHO where Timothy excels outside his drippy ballad territory but I'm not sure if any of the songs are strong enough to captivate a huge arena sized audience that are unfamiliar with the material.

They could at least make Expando available for sale at Eagles concerts.

There should be loads of Eagles related CDs and/or DVDs on sale at gigs rather than the usual rather useless and underwhelming merchandise they usually have on offer.

Anybody who's prepared to pay $200 to attend an Eagles concert would surely stump up $15 for a solo CD.

I would love to hear the Eagles do Parachute.

Realistically any obscure solo song is bathroom break time but Parachute would allow some enthralling guitar maestroics from Joe.

Parachute is probably the best bet but I'd love to hear an Eagles version of Secular Praise, Friday Night and Downtime.... well all of them really.

It'll be interesting to see if Tim tweaks his own set list if he commits to perform further dates.

Just checked the title of this thread (Billboard Chart), I don't think the charts adequately reflect how music is being consumed these days.

I have an mp3 player with a couple of gigs worth of tracks I've enjoyed hearing on the radio, along with a stack of old favourites I've bought over many years.

I've eased down a little on Long Road Out Of Eden, still enjoying Vitale's Speaking In Drums but Expando is the album, and all of it, that I currently keep returning to.

Well I nearly got back on topic :laughing7:

So would I!  The moment I heard the harmonies (not to do any injustice to Graham Nash, because he's fabulous!) I thought what a show-stopper this could be for the band!  It's unlike anything they have in their repertoire currently, and I do agree that this one is a logical choice for the first single from Expando...

Sometimes all it takes is one rogue DJ and a receptive programmer.  I recall that it was one Texas DJ who came back from holiday in Australia with a copy of Savage Garden's  "I Want You" and played it on his show in Dallas  because he thought it was such an original sound... and the incredible snowball THAT started spread worldwide.

I found a couple of other radio stations--I think they were college radio stations--who are playing "A Good Day" and "One More Mile".  One was in Lansing, Michigan; I forget where the other one was.  I still think country radio should play "A Good Day", but it may be too country for them, having an actual steel guitar on it.  Imagine that!  Back in the day the rap on Poco was that they were too rock for country and too country for rock.  These days I think Poco might be too country for country too.  The more things change, the more they stay the same, huh?  ::)
