Ok maybe Andrew doesn't qualify under this heading ("Alt Eagles), but he's done enough work with some of the current members of the band, so why not...

Can anyone confirm the rumor that I'm hearing about Andrew, that he is currently going through treatment for lung cancer?

Thanks.
Marv

I was just checking out Andrew Gold yesterday. I downloaded the Common Knowledge album he did with famous Mancunian Graham Gouldman, thinking it'd be good to hear those two working together again.

I've listened to (and bought) a lot of Andrew's music and have a long list of favourites, I love Firefly and his Buddy Holly cover Learning The Game.

He's released loads of stuff since the music industry went Belly-Up which tells me he truly loved being a musician and making music even after a 40ish year long career in the music industry.

I hope Andrew gets the acknowledgements he deserves as the news of his death filters out.

Last December, while searching the web, discovering the wonders of Barclay James Harvest's keyboard player and talisman, Stuart "Wooly" Wolstenholme, I discovered he'd committed suicide the day before with sadly, not so much as a murmur in, even the music, press.

I hope I'm not jinxed...

Much respect to Andrew. He's left a fine body of work. :notworthy:

I'm pretty sure I read yesterday that Andrew played keyboards on Don's first hit Johnny Can't Read

He was one of the usual suspects on the LA music scene..............

most notably he played a major role as multi-instrumentalist and arranger for Linda Ronstadt's breakthrough album, 1974's Heart Like a Wheel, and her next four albums. Among other accomplishments, he played the majority of instruments on the album's first track, including the guitar work on "You're No Good," Ronstadt's first #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100, and the same on "When Will I Be Loved", "Heatwave", and many others. He was in her band from 1973 until 1977, and then sporadically throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

Plus he wrote and sang The Golden Girls TV show theme tune Thank You For Being A Friend

RIP Andrew

He is certainly credited with playing keyboards on the album I Can't Stand Still from which JCR was a track  ;D

I've been a fan of Andrew and his music since the early 1970's. His "What's Wrong With This Picture?" album (the one with "Lonely Boy") continues to be among my favourite albums of all-time. He will be missed.

For those of you who might not have known, Andrew's mom was the singing voice for Natalie Wood in "West Side Story", for Deborah Kerr in "The King And I", and for Audrey Hepburn in "My Fair Lady." Her credits are extensive, and she's won multiple Grammys and Tonys. His dad won an Oscar for orchestrating the "Exodus" theme in 1961 (1960?).
