Glenn's barbed remark about Don
« on: May 28, 2010, 03:24:13 PM »
Does anyone remember the exact quote when Glenn said something (back in the day) about when Don walked into a room he sucked the enjoyment out of it.....

I know it was a great put down and I was hoping to recycle it about someone else I know  :laughing7:

It goes something like this, Lesley  - "that guy sure knows how to suck the fun out of a room" - but I think Don got him back (big time) when he said of Glenn's bowel surgery "they're operating on the wrong end of him"

All I can say is.......... :sign10: here!

I remembered Glenn's quote about Don, but hadn't heard the one Don said...
Dave has diverticulosis too, so I can sympathize a bit with Glenn, although Dave never needed surgery thankfully.
It did put him in the hospital for almost a week though a few years ago......

I think Frey said, "nobody sucks the fun out of a room like Don Henley".

Let's face it.  They hate each other.  that quote was from years ago, but  I heard from a guy who seems to be a pretty well placed source at a concert  who i don't think has any reason to lie that the two of them don't even look at each other backstage even now.

I don't think that's completely true.  They have their ups and downs, but they don't totally hate each other.

Yeah, in fairness, I may have overstated the 'hatred' factor.  But they have little need or time for each other outside of the fact that they still have a mega franchise that they are essentially equal partners in and for the most part sort of put up with each other more than enjoy the fact that they work together.  That is different than hate...I was overstating it a bit.

One thing I will say...I wish Don Henley were in charge of the setlist and general approach to the concerts.  Not that I think he'd exactly be Bruce Springsteen up there or anything, but I do think Eagles concerts would be more interesting for Eagles fans.  the way they are set up now is mostly for the casual fan, casino goer, etc.

Henley's solo concerts don't exactly have mosh pits, but there is usually an interesting wrinkle.  Some chances are taken.  With the Eagles, I have to say I'm starting to feel like I might as well just watch a video of a really well performed and professional revue.

That's what got them to the top. :dontknow:

About a quarter of the set is new songs thirdbase. Maybe they should be sprinkled more evenly throughout the set which, I believe, is an opinion Henley holds too.

If you don't care for their song sets, don't go to the concerts. I think they are doing just fine.

I've passed on the Eagles on the last two occasions they played locally, just a few miles from my home. I don't feel as if I've missed out on anything at all.

I'd have been there if they'd altered the set list.

The Eagles are playing to empty seats. They put on a great show but even the release of LROOE has done little to alter a set list that every Eagles concert goer has spent a huge amount of money on seeing before.

Sorry I'm way off topic again ::) ::).

I'll continue off-topic for just a second...

A new set-list would be great for those of us who have seen them several times since HFO, but I suspect the masses are still only going to see the mega-hits.  Having said that, they have enough hits that they could change up the entire concert, for example:

Best of My Love
James Dean
Those Shoes
Victim of Love (even if money would then go to Felder)
Pretty Maids
New Kid In Town
After the Thrill Is Gone
Ol 55
Sad Cafe
Turn to Stone
Life of Illusion
Sunset Grill
Smuggler's Blues
The One You Love
On the Border
Good Day In Hell
Last Worthless Evening
End of the Innocence
I Found Somebody
Sexy Girl
All Night Long

The list goes on and on.
