The Long Run recording session from 1979
« on: August 22, 2011, 01:45:41 AM »
I haven't seen this (or if I have I've forgotten... so it's the same thing :) ) Recording session of The Long Run from 1979 , even has a brief appearance of the sound techs.  They're all at the point of laughing at one time or another during the session.  Fun clip.

It was on YouTube with the sound disabled; fortunately this person posted it with the sound intact.... while it lasts.

You know this isn't an actual recording session, right?  This is the official video release of "The Long Run".  It was staged specifically to be filmed and used for promotional purposes.  There were three videos recorded using this setup.  "I Can't Tell You Why" was one and I think the third was "In the City", if I remember correctly.

I'd totally forgotten Joe Vitale was on keys for that one. Staged, but still pretty cool, thanks.  :icon_thumleft:

Great to see the Eagles (with a little help from Joe V) when they were a band... and an extra lick or two from Joe right at the end.

My favourite version of The long Run is the one on Eagles Live from 1980 which closes out with some fantastic alto sax courtesy of Phil Kenzie.

When I hear the (no horns) album version, I often think there is something missing.

Thanks a lot for posting the clip Buntzen :icon_thumright:

In The City from 1979 with Joe Vitale (another promo clip from the Long Run album)

http://www.wat.tv/video/eagles-in-the-city-1979-1klk8_2ibet_.html

The track was first recorded by Joe for the soundtrack to the 1979 movie The Warriors but the band liked what they heard and decided to record it as an Eagles track for The Long Run. A video was made for the track featuring a staged recording session of the track with Joe playing a Gibson double neck guitar using the 12-string neck for the rhythm parts and the 6-string neck for the slide guitar parts.  Tim played a Fender bass, Felder used a Fender Stratocaster, and Don used an 8-piece Ludwig drum kit with Paiste cymbals, Glenn on piano and Joe V on congas.

I prefer this one:
