New Glenn album!
« on: August 24, 2011, 01:55:16 PM »
Great to hear that Glenn talked about releasing a new solo album early in 2012, at his live show last night.

He even disclosed the title "After Hours", which means the fabulous out-take from his The Allnighter album will almost certainly be one of the tracks.

Sadly the album looks like it'll be a bunch of standards rather than original material, Glenn performed four such tracks; Route 66, Caroline No (could he do a better version than Tim's?), Shadow of Your Smile, and The Look of Love during the show.

Glenn has another show tonight, so hopefully a little more info will slip out :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft:

I need to Google those titles...

I've never thought of Glenn has an excellent song writer, but he does have some good stuff. It would be nice if he put out an album with new material. It would also be nice if the Don and Joe get an album out. Then after Glenn's album comes out how about a new Eagles album??

Well, we know that Don and Joe are working on new albums..but a new Eagles album? Slim chance.. Maybe a new song on a new "best of" collection next year (40th anniversary), but I doubt we'll ever see another brand new studio album, considering how long (pun intended;-) it took to finish "Eden".

Yes but they were getting back into the groove of things...so it could be possible and maybe it'll be different...

I have a friend who recorded an album in one weekend as an experiment.  It would be quite interesting to see what the 5 Eagles could do locked in a studio for a couple of weeks with a hard deadline.  It'll never happen, but my hunch is that they would surprise themselves.  Regardless of what their perfectionism might demand, good music doesn't have to take years to produce.  Such a project wouldn't be as slick and polished as their usual output, but there are those of us who might find the Eagles with rough edges to be a refreshing change.  Again, it'll never happen, but it's fun to think about.

That's one Big Brother show I'd be glued to Monstertone :laughing7:

I'm sure some band, if not the Eagles would be up for it though..

Most of the cover songs the guys have included in their live sets have sounded pretty polished and crafted to me.

These guys can really play. I expect they all read music too. Joe definitely, Tim very probably, Glenn likely, Don ???... probably knows some drummer jokes :dontknow:

Glenn's a fun guy. how about a companion CD to his new album of songs from his parents era, a CD of his kids' favourite songs.  I'm sure they could find him some good 'uns :icon_thumright:

Don took piano lessons as a child and was in band in school.......I'm sure he can read music.

Well, Timothy gave an interview in the mid-'70s where he was asked if he read music and he said he used to but hadn't in a while, but he didn't think it would take him long to get back into it.  I'm guessing he probably didn't ever take up reading music again.  However, I suppose it's possible with all the session work he did in the '80s to keep body and soul together, he may have had to brush up on his sight-reading.

From http://www.vintagevinylnews.com/2011/12/short-takes-paul-mccartney-janet.html

Paul McCartney will be releasing his new album, My Valentine, on May 7.

The album will mix Paul's takes on standards with a few songs that he wrote in the "standards" style.

"This will sound like the years between 1920-1940, the time when my father was 20. These are songs I heard. My family, my uncles, everybody sang."

Great minds think alike?

or veteran artists with an identity crisis :dontknow:

McCartney's forthcoming album is still untitled but I have heard one of the self-penned tunes, My Valentine and it sounds more like a Glenn Frey tune than a macca tune.

I reckon Glenn should do a cover. Great publicity for his own After Hours collection.

Well since Glenn mooted a Valentines Day release date for his standards album, After Hours, it's been very, very quiet so I'm pretty sure, with a couple of weeks to go, it's not going to happen.  It would have been a major [but marvelous] shock if it did/does hit that deadline.

Maybe he's considering a retitle; After Weeks or After Months ::)

After promising so much. it looks like February is going to be another quiet month at Eagle Towers.

Quiet before the storm I hope :dontknow:

thanks for that,he sounds really good on it BUT, me personally, this is music i would listen to at a piano bar or background music, i wouldn't buy it to play at home as I have my music loud so the grapevines can enjoy also...just me though  :)
