Don Henley's AOL Chat
« on: December 06, 2011, 12:01:10 AM »
On November 27th 1995, Don Henley chatted live with AOL (America Online). At the time, this was a huge deal. Today, we're used to celebrities sharing (sometimes oversharing) things with fans using social media or online blogs. Back in 1995, though, the thought that we could power up our modem, log on to AOL and see Don type (or dictate) answers to fans questions in real time was mind-blowing. It's a bit different from these days when Don's interviews are much less spontaneous. It's interesting to see what's changed in 15 years and what hasn't changed. We have the transcript in PDF form (copied from the chat window), but we've converted it to photos to share with you here.

My favorite line:"I am still planning to do a blues or a country/blues album in the next two to three years"

What do you find interesting?

I love how he suggests that "questioners" write in for more detailed answers. Wonder if they did and if so, did they get the "lengthy" replies that Don suggests is needed. Hope they had large dictionaries beside them LOL

I have a feeling that this was Don being funny.  BTW...that address is an old one.

Lisa, do you remember if this was Don's first chat? Wasn't there another one?

I think it was Don's first.  I seem to recall he did another one around the time the Selected Works box set came out.  Glenn was supposed to do it, but he was "ill" so Don took over.  I remember he talked about what he was taking to his in-laws for Thanksgiving. :)

Ironic that some of his responses would probably be exactly the same 16 years later....with the world being smaller than ever, and worries about the environment more prominent than ever.  Wouldn't we love an opportunity to "instant message " with Don today?!!!

I wonder what his opinion is of Joe's guitar habit. He seems to go through  hundreds of guitar a year, which require woods and resources. While they are from properly managed forests, I still wonder.
