Roy Orbison and Friends, "A Black and White Night"

This production has been talked about a little on the old boards, I believe, but has fallen off of this one. Just a reminder now that the Eagles' current tour is in pause, you can fill a lot of moments with this DVD, featuring both J.D. Souther and Jackson Browne.

I really thought it was interesting reading in Felders' book how much the band respected Roy Orbison and his talent. Maybe they should have been opening for him?

Recorded over 20 years ago now, you can hear "the voice" sounding never better, with a backing group of artists who are all stars in their own right. The regular DVD has a 5.1 audio track that is superb. It has just recently come out in Blu-ray, also. Here it is in widescreen and has a Dolby TrueHD audio option. Stunning. If you have or are thinking of trying a Blu-ray player coupled with a sound system, this should be one of the first discs to have.

Saw this on BBC4 a few weeks back and it was on again (or at least, extracts were) last week. It is one helluva performance by everyone inolved. Brilliant stuff. Love the closing credits where everyone gives their thoughts about Roy e.g. Elvis Costello saying "I went to school with Roy.. " :laughing7:

I watched this back in 1988 and taped it on VHS at the same time - however as I no longer watch videos I gave it to charity.

It was a great show and good fun guessing all the guest artists - of course I recognised Brucie Baby straight away  :laughing7:

Legendary 60s guitarist James Burton, no it's Steve Cropper innit. JB is Elvis's guitarist.

I remember an interview where Cropper divulged that the guitar part for Sitting On A Dock Of The Bay was his guitar part for Knock On Wood backwards. Why do I mentally log this stuff ? :dontknow:

That is indeed James Burton, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. The bassist behind him is Jerry Scheff, who also played with Elvis, as did the drummer, Ron Tutt.
