I understand what you're saying, Yose. It can make you wonder, "What's the point?", to cover a song and do it just like the original. But with that being said, I still like how he sounds doing these songs.
I also agree that Fogerty is at his best when he does his own material. But this album is intended as a sequel to his first solo album, The Blue Ridge Rangers, which was all covers as well. One big difference between the two albums, though, is that he played all of the instruments on the first one, while he has several guests on the new one. Two of the lesser known guests, Buddy and Julie Miller, are on several of the songs and really add a lot to them.
But I'm really enjoying this album because I love the way he sounds on the country & western songs. It reminds me of some of the songs he did with CCR.
