Timothy B. Schmit / Re: Other bass players opinions
« on: August 09, 2011, 03:30:26 PM »
I was very surprised that one of the posters in the discussion (in the above link) called Timothy, "pretentious".  Truly, it just does not seem to be a word that describes him very well.  I've always felt that in all the interviews I've seen or read, he is anything but pretentious.

Beach Baby-
We were at the same concert!  I was in the middle of the third row with my husband.  We have decided that instead of buying birthday gifts for each other, we were going to have "life experiences".  This is what I wanted for mine!  My birthday's not until August, but when I heard he was going to play in Madison, I just had to go.  Last year I flew to Dallas for an Eagles concert and also had a great seat.  Who needs presents when I can do that?????

Jackson was so likable, open, friendly and he really sounded great.  I enjoyed his commentary and chit chat, especially hearing about where he was when he wrote certain songs and what was going on in his life at the time.  It was a great evening.

General Eagles Discussion / Re: Long Road out of Eden...the song
« on: August 26, 2010, 05:39:14 PM »
When I bought my CD and listened to Waiting in the Weeds, I played it over and over and over.  I followed along with the lyrics until I had them memorized, and I thought, "Are you kidding me?  Are you kidding me?"  This is absolutely awesome stuff- a real triumph in song writing.

I agree that Long Road Out of Eden is also a masterpiece of lyrics, with fascinating and spine tingling musical arrangements thrown in.

While I love all of their old stuff, and have been known to feel that whole "soundtrack of our lives" blather, when I listen to these two songs from LROE, I realize it just does NOT get any better than that.

I have to admit that I am an Archive Fanatic!   I've read/watched it all numerous times and really miss the opportunity to do that.

I really regret that I didn't download more stuff.  I'm kicking myself for missing the boat on that.

I'm trying to remember Don's introduction to Best of my Love, but I'm having trouble remembering the EXACT words.  It was something like, "We're going to play a song we haven't played in years.  Wish us luck."  This of course was followed by a big smile.

I cannot tell you how excited I was to hear that song live.  You know how there are big moments in our lives that we attach to certain songs?  That song always reminds me of my first slow dance in junior high.  I can remember the boy, the shirt he was wearing, how strange my stomach felt, and how badly he danced.   :icon_tongue:

I know that the phrase "soundtrack of our lives" is probably overused, but it is spot on.

I'm loving Judi's photos too.  Awesome!

Judi, what section were you in?  I was in section 11.

There were 3 people in front of me who were kind of annoying.  The young woman in front of me was about 2 inches taller than me, (I'm 5'9) had a very large head, and moved in a spastic fashion which meant I was constantly moving around trying to get the best line for seeing Timothy.  For the first 25 minutes they seemed really into the music, then they were just talking together and laughing, not even looking at the stage.  I wanted to tell them that you can stay home and talk and laugh FOR FREE!  (oh, and not bother the concert goer who really wants to SEE and ENJOY the show)

Also, I noticed early on that the taller, large headed woman in front of me, was screaming out for Timothy.  At break, I asked her if she was a Timothy B. Schmit fan, and she replied, "Who's that?"   ( I'm hoping she was kidding) Then she said something like, "I love him.  I like to say he's my boyfriend."    :dontknow:
I asked if she had been to any of his solo shows or if she had Expando.  She had no idea what I was talking about.   :sleepy1:   That ended our conversation.

As I said before, everything else about the concert was fantastic.  I am so glad I decided to make the trip.

Here are my thoughts and memories-

Got there at 7:00 and bought a tour book and a T-shirt, (one with the great new photos).  Suffered through JD and The Straight Shot-- EEEEEK.  Made friends with 3 couples sitting near me and we all shared our love of the band.  A group of 4 sat in front of me.  More about them later.

When the band took the stage, I was sad to see Tim wearing my least favorite shirt of all time. . . the greenish/grayish one.  Luckily, he changed into a short sleeved black shirt at intermission.   :icon_thumright:

I'll give you my general, overall opinion of the evening.  The boys were enthusiastic, light hearted, and having a blast.  There was a lot of smiling and even some outright laughing!  Don seemed to be in such a great mood, and Joe was too.  The energy in the crowd was outstanding, and it filtered on stage.  Timothy did his best to honor and recognize all the fans, especially those in the nose bleed seats.  He seemed more chatty and relaxed than ever, and he was rockin' out.

I've always felt that Stueart Smith is a great guitar player, but last night he was on FIRE!!!  Strong, confident and also smiling from ear to ear.  There was a lot of interaction between Stueart and all the guys.

Glenn was so incredibly sincere when he spoke.  Sometimes it seems to me that his comments are a bit forced, but he veered from his regular comments and said some very kind things in a very warm, sincere manner.  He struggled a bit on vocals and Timothy was supporting some of his lyrics in a subtle way.  If you weren't watching Timothy very closely, you would have missed it.     (I was watching Timothy very closely) :laughing7:

Outstanding experience.  I'll tell you more tomorrow.  Right now I'm exhausted.

General Eagles Discussion / Re: What's your best ticket tip?

I'm in. . .

I'm going to Dallas!

I wasn't comfortable waiting until the last minute, since I'm flying from Milwaukee.  Wanted to have a ticket in hand.  Looks like I'll be in the middle section of the floor, about 18 rows back.

I followed the great advice- chose the sections that were acceptable to me and stuck to my dollar amount, (well, almost).
